Terra, which specializes in Chef Mike Davis’s simple, seasonal and sustainable fare at 100 State Street in West Columbia, announces that Chef Charley Scruggs has joined the Terra team as pastry chef.

 

“We’re excited to welcome Charley to Terra,” said Chef Mike Davis, owner of Terra. “He’s widely recognized as a talented, experienced chef and he knows Columbia’s community as well as Terra’s clientele. We’re all enjoying working with Charley in the kitchen at Terra. The passion, care and attention with which he approaches is work is evident in the quality of his delicious desserts and incredible freshly baked breads. We are excited to see what he has in store and are sure that our guests will be pleased by this addition to our team.”

 

Scruggs is no stranger to the Columbia food scene. He began his career as sous chef at Saluda’s, worked as pastry chef at Wild Dunes resort in the Lowcountry before returning to Columbia to work at such staple establishments as Oak Table, Rise Bakeshop and most recently Tallulah. Scruggs will be responsible for the pastry and dessert menu at Terra as well as much of the restaurant’s bread program.

 

“It’s an honor to work with Chef Mike and his sous chef, Joby Wetzel. They’ve long been a staple team in Columbia’s food scene and I hope to create a pastry program that can match both their passion for excellent food and dedication to supporting local farmers,” said Scruggs.
